New Zealand recently launched a new business investor visa that offers permanent residency! This brand-new business investor visa is opening up an attractive residency pathway for foreign investors. The country came up with this visa to encourage overseas businessmen to actively run businesses in NZ, create jobs, and strengthen the local economy.

The government has officially closed the entrepreneur work visa program and replaced it with the business investor visa. If you are one of those wondering how to apply for a New Zealand visa, this investor pathway is all set to become one of the most attractive options.

Interesting Features of the Visa

The Business Investor Work Visa is all set to open for applications in November 2025 and is offering two clear options:

  • NZD $1 million investment (approx. ₹5 crore) in an existing business – 3-year work-to-residence pathway.
  • NZD $2 million investment (approx. ₹10 crore) in an existing business – 12-month fast-track to residence pathway.

If you are interested then you can either purchase a business directly or acquire at least 25% ownership in one. The business is supposed to create at least 5 full-time jobs for locals to qualify.

In this case, both pathways will lead to eligibility for the Business Investor Resident Visa, which is valid for up to 4 years. Please note that applicants can also include their partner and dependent children in the application.

Currently, the visa fee is NZD $12,380 (around ₹6.4 lakh), which includes the immigration levy.

Eligibility Requirements

If you want to qualify for this investor route, then you should:

  • Meet the minimum investment threshold.
  • Show proof of at least NZD $500,000 to support yourself and your family during business setup.
  • Be 55 years or younger.
  • Meet English language (IELTS 5.0 or equivalent), health, and character requirements.
  • Have prior business experience

For Restricted Businesses

Investors should note that certain businesses are not eligible, including convenience stores, discount shops, fast-food outlets, franchise operations, home-based businesses, and immigration advisory firms.

Canada PR aspirants would be happy to know that the nation is planning to introduce a new permanent residency pathway in 2025. It is expected to be aimed at skilled refugees and displaced individuals, eventually helping the ones struggling with securing a PR in Canada and making it easier for them to secure it just like EMPP (Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot) did.

In 2018, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) launched the EMPP (Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot) to connect refugees with Canadian employers and help them immigrate through economic pathways. This program proved to be an effective way for them to gain valuable Canadian experience and also fill in labor shortages. Now, the federal government aims to develop a permanent version of the program.

As per the IRCC’s 2025 – 2026 departmental plan, this permanent residency pathway will start before the EMPP concludes on December 31, 2025. The core objective of this pathway is to help displaced professionals find a way to settle in Canada, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. However, specific details like eligibility requirements and application procedures are yet to be released.

So far, the EMPP has helped more than 1,000 individuals to immigrate to Canada since its inception. Additionally, it operates through both federal and regional streams. This includes the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) and various Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). To qualify under the EMPP, applicants must prove their refugee or displaced status through official documents or referrals from IRCC-approved partners. Also, applications must be submitted from outside Canada.

Federal EMPP Streams

There are two federal streams:

  1. Job Offer Stream – This stream requires applicants to have a full-time Canadian job offer, relevant work experience, education, and language proficiency based on the NOC’s TEER category. Additionally, this stream caps at 950 applicants annually.
  2. No Job Offer Stream – This stream is open to candidates with high-skill work experience (TEER 0–3), equivalent secondary education, and CLB 7 in English or French. Additionally, it is limited to 150 applications and is currently closed.

Please note that applicants under either stream must show proof of settlement funds.

Regional EMPP Options

Applicants must meet a specific criteria if they want to apply to this program with regional streams via AIP or PNPs. Additionally, The AIP also offers flexibility, such as waived credential assessments and potential access to loans for settlement funds.

Extra Support for EMPP Candidates

The federal government covers application and medical exam fees, provides tailored settlement services, and supports travel expenses, making EMPP as one of the most accessible immigration pathways for displaced individuals.

Are you dreaming of studying at Canada’s best universities and hoping to gain valuable work experience after graduation? We have great news for you!

A major update has arrived from Canada on June 25, 2025 for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility list. This update concerns non-degree programs, mainly students who are pursuing diplomas, or other college-level qualifications (not bachelor’s, master’s, or PhDs) will be required to check if their program is on the new list.

Here’s what has changed: 119 new fields of study have been added to the PGWP-eligible list, while many previous ones have been removed. Undoubtedly, this update aims to align international student pathways with the future needs of Canada’s job market.

The newly eligible programs now include: healthcare, education, skilled trades, and technology and many other fields where Canada is actively facing worker shortages. At the same time areas like agriculture, transportation, and environmental studies have been removed. No doubt, these changes reflect a shift in focus to sectors with attractive employment prospects and long-term labour demands.

Wondering who this impacts? This impacts those who are applying for a study permit on or after November 1, 2024, your program must be on the updated PGWP list. IIf you applied before June 25, 2025, don’t worry, you’re still eligible under the previous list.

There are several exemptions too. If you are a degree level student and graduate from a PGWP-approved flight school, you have nothing to worry about. The same goes for anyone who submitted their study permit application before the November 1, 2024 cut-off.

Why is this news important for international students? All international students in Canada are aware that getting a PGWP is the first step towards permanent residency in Canada. Moreover, several newly added programs also align with the priority categories in Express Entry, Canada’s skilled immigration system. Hence, it’s important to check the latest PGWP-eligible list now and confirm your program’s CIP code.

This update could make or break your plans to build a future in Canada, so don’t wait! Find out if your program made the cut.
