Are you planning to move to Canada through the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), then here’s an important update from Canada for you! IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has increased the settlement funds that are required under the AIP. This means that candidates will now be required to show at least $140 more compared to last year. For instance, now a single applicant will be required to show $3,815, up from $3,672 in 2024.

Updated Funds Needed (2025):

  • 1 person: $3,815
  • 2 people: $4,750
  • 3 people: $5,840
  • 4 people: $7,090
  • 5 people: $8,042
  • 6 people: $9,070
  • 7 people: $10,098
  • Each additional member: +$1,028

Who needs to show funds now & how to count family size.

You are required to show proof of settlement funds unless you are already working in Canada under a valid work permit. While counting family size, you can count yourself, your spouse or partner, and all dependent children. Which means, this will include your spouse’s children, even if they are not going to join you in Canada or already have Canada PR Visa or citizenship

What can be used as proof of funds?

To show proof of funds you’ll be required to have an official letter from your bank or financial institution. This letter must include:

Your name
Bank’s contact details
List of debts
Account numbers and balances
Average balance for the last 6 months

Please note that you cannot use borrowed money or property value to show as a proof. Also, if your spouse is coming along, joint accounts or accounts in their name can be used if you can access the money.

What is the AIP?

Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a job-offer based pathway to permanent residency. Thousands of people apply for this program with an aim to settle in one of the four Atlantic provinces – New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.

For this the candidate must have a job offer from a designated employer and endorsement by the province. The applicants should be skilled workers working in Canada or outside Canada. They can also be recent graduates from an Atlantic Canadian institution. Additionally, the candidate must have a minimum education, English or French language skills, and proof of settlement funds.

Are you a permanent resident of Canada dreaming of reuniting with your parents or grandparents in Canada, indefinitely? You’ll be happy to know that from July 28, 2025, the Canadian government will start sending invitations to the much anticipated parents and grandparents program (PGP). This is a great opportunity to bring your loved ones to Canada as a permanent resident and live with them.

Over 17,860 invitations were sent in the last two weeks which aimed to accept over 10,000 fully completed applications. However, not everyone can simply jump in just yet, instead only those who have submitted an “Interest to Sponsor” form back in the year 2020 are currently considered for this program. If you are one of them and have been patiently waiting for an update, this is good news for you.

If you have not received an invitation, don’t lose hope. An excellent alternative – the Super visa is available for you. It’s a powerful option which allows parents and grandparents to reunite in Canada and stay up to 10 years. This visa seems like a major upgrade from the typical 6-month visitor visa. Additionally, it is a fantastic way to reunite with your family for an extended period, even if you don’t get to avail permanent residency immediately.

What is the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)?

One of the most unique and beloved family reunification programs is the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). It aims to provide citizens, permanent residents, and registered Indians a legal route to sponsor their parents and grandparents for PR. Since the demand is high, Canada uses a lottery style draw system to keep things fair. No new applications are being accepted; selection is based on pre-submitted forms.

It is important to note that this 2020 intake was the last time the government has accepted a new interest to sponsor forms. Therefore, only the ones with pre-registered applicants are at an advantage.

Why is the Super Visa getting popular?

The super visa is known to offer a multi-entry stay of up to 10 years. It allows parents and grandparents to spend quality time with their family in Canada. If you want to qualify, then you must:

Prove that you have qualifying medical insurance
– Be admissible to Canada
– Have a host (you!) who meets minimum income requirements and agrees to financially support them

Are you dreaming of studying at Canada’s best universities and hoping to gain valuable work experience after graduation? We have great news for you!

A major update has arrived from Canada on June 25, 2025 for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility list. This update concerns non-degree programs, mainly students who are pursuing diplomas, or other college-level qualifications (not bachelor’s, master’s, or PhDs) will be required to check if their program is on the new list.

Here’s what has changed: 119 new fields of study have been added to the PGWP-eligible list, while many previous ones have been removed. Undoubtedly, this update aims to align international student pathways with the future needs of Canada’s job market.

The newly eligible programs now include: healthcare, education, skilled trades, and technology and many other fields where Canada is actively facing worker shortages. At the same time areas like agriculture, transportation, and environmental studies have been removed. No doubt, these changes reflect a shift in focus to sectors with attractive employment prospects and long-term labour demands.

Wondering who this impacts? This impacts those who are applying for a study permit on or after November 1, 2024, your program must be on the updated PGWP list. IIf you applied before June 25, 2025, don’t worry, you’re still eligible under the previous list.

There are several exemptions too. If you are a degree level student and graduate from a PGWP-approved flight school, you have nothing to worry about. The same goes for anyone who submitted their study permit application before the November 1, 2024 cut-off.

Why is this news important for international students? All international students in Canada are aware that getting a PGWP is the first step towards permanent residency in Canada. Moreover, several newly added programs also align with the priority categories in Express Entry, Canada’s skilled immigration system. Hence, it’s important to check the latest PGWP-eligible list now and confirm your program’s CIP code.

This update could make or break your plans to build a future in Canada, so don’t wait! Find out if your program made the cut.
