Choosing the right CELPIP coaching for Express Entry can make a real difference to your Canada immigration journey. English language proficiency plays an important role in Canada's Express Entry system, and one of the most widely accepted tests to prove your English skills is the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP). Understanding the required CELPIP score is essential because it directly influences your Express Entry profile and CRS points.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) officially recognizes CELPIP as proof of English language proficiency for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR), citizenship and various other immigration programs. This guide covers everything — from the test format and score mapping to how CELPIP is used in Express Entry — plus practical preparation tips.

CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Program) is a computer-based standardized test used to assess the English proficiency of people immigrating to Canada, especially for permanent residency, citizenship and professional applications. It comes in two versions:
CELPIP-General (G): Widely used for Canadian PR applications and professional certification. It assesses four skills — Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
CELPIP-General LS: Used for Canadian citizenship applications and certain professional designations. It evaluates two skills — Listening and Speaking.
CELPIP is a fully computer-based English test completed in one sitting of about 3 hours, assessing four sections:
Listening (45–50 minutes): Six parts with 38 multiple-choice questions covering recordings, phone conversations, workplace discussions, news reports and community announcements. Each clip plays only once.
Reading (45–55 minutes): Passages include emails, advertisements, informal texts and letters, with multiple-choice, sentence-insertion and detail-identification tasks.
Writing (55 minutes): Two tasks — writing an email response to a scenario, and responding to survey questions with your opinion supported by reasons and examples.
Speaking (15 minutes): Eight tasks with computer-recorded answers, including giving advice, describing a scene, comparing options and expressing opinions.

The Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) is the national standard used by the Canadian government to measure English proficiency. Your CELPIP score maps directly to a CLB level — for example, a section score of 9 equals CLB 9. The stronger your English proficiency, the higher your CLB score, which boosts your Express Entry profile.

Express Entry is the main system Canada uses to grant Permanent Residency to skilled workers. The English tests accepted are CELPIP, IELTS and PTE, and scores remain valid for two years. Scores are measured on the CLB scale, and a strong proficiency boosts your CRS points and your chances of being invited. The government runs draws throughout the year, inviting the highest-ranked candidates to apply for PR. Learn more about the Canada Express Entry program and the full Canada PR visa pathway.
