Canada is changing how Express Entry candidates are ranked.
On 16 October 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced one of the biggest changes to Express Entry. The changes announced by IRCC will take effect on November 3, 2026.
For people already in the Express Entry pool and those planning to apply for a Canada PR Visa this update is very important for you as this could directly affect your CRS score and the way you are positioned for future invitation rounds.

What is Changing in Express Entry?
Canada now wants to attract more people who work in well paid in demand jobs. So from 3 November, Express Entry will give extra CRS points to candidates who have:
Canadian work experience will give you more points: If you have 12+ months of qualifying Canadian work experience, your occupation’s wage level could earn you additional points
A job offer in Canada in a high-wage occupation: Job Offer points are now reintroduced. Eligible high wage occupations can now receive CRS points depending on your wage.
A New “Labour Market Integration” Factor: Canada is now putting more emphasis on candidates who are already integrated into its labour market.
No LMIA: LMIA is no longer the key to job-offer points. You will not need an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) for a qualifying job offer to earn these points.
How Much Can You Gain From Canadian Work Experience?
Additional CRS points for Canadian work experience
At least 2x the national medium wage: +70 points
At least 1.5x but below 2x: +40 points
At least 1.3x but below 1.5x: +20 points
Below the qualifying threshold: 0 points
CRS points for a qualifying job offer
At least 2x the national median wage: 100 CRS points
At least 1.5x but below 2x: 70CRS points
At least 1.3x but below 1.5x: 50 CRS points
Below the qualifying threshold: 0 CRS points
What happens to people already in the pool?
IRCC will automatically recalculate the CRS scores of everyone in the Express Entry pool under the new rules. This could take up to two weeks, and invitation rounds will be paused during that time.
But there’s one thing IRCC won’t do for you. If you have a job offer, you need to add it to your profile yourself before 3 November. If the job offer details in your profile are missing or incorrect, you could miss out on points you’re entitled to.
What does this mean for Indian applicants?
It depends on where you are right now.
If you have a job offer from a Canadian employer in fields like IT, engineering or healthcare, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Earning extra points, with no LMIA needed, can move a profile from “waiting indefinitely” to “competitive”.
If you’re working in Canada on a work permit, check whether your occupation is on the high-wage list. Your score could rise automatically.
If you’re applying from India without a job offer, nothing changes in how your own points are calculated. But the pool will shift. Candidates with high-wage experience or offers will move up the rankings, and that could affect cut-off scores in the coming months. Strengthening your profile now, through better English scores, French or a provincial nomination, matters more than ever.
One important reminder
Extra points don’t guarantee an invitation. You still need to meet the requirements of an Express Entry program, and invitations depend on the cut-off score in each round. Be very careful of anyone offering to “sell” you a Canadian job offer. IRCC has made it clear that it will check every offer and act on fraud or misrepresentation, and a fake offer can get you banned from applying.
Don’t wait until 3 November
If you’re already in the pool, or planning to enter it soon, now is the time to check your profile. A small mistake in your job offer details or your work experience could cost you points just when they matter most.
To see how the changes affect you, check whether your occupation is on IRCC’s high-wage list, confirm your Canadian work experience and job offer details are correct in your profile. With the changes taking effect on November 3, 2026, applicants should review their profiles and stay informed about how the new CRS rules may affect them.
